A very example of a Third Reich period wrought iron candle holder dated 1941. Completely hand made with a riveted construction and no welding.
One of the main positive attributes of traditional wrought iron is its resistance to corrosion, many pieces from the 1930’s and 1940’s exhibit very little corrosion, unlike more modern, for example 1970’s pieces that may show a lot more corrosion as the material will very likely be mild steel.
This item is marked with a manufacturer or artists name and dated, Walter Scarbatha 1941. As yet I’ve found no information on this company or blacksmith. Does anyone know of this firm? Any information would be most welcome!
